It's Interop time in Las Vegas this week, so all those involved in the world of networking are making product announcements in between the high-roller parties and playing the casinos. Here are some highlights to prove that not everything that happens in Vegas, stays there.

OptionsCity Software is leveraging the Zing Java Virtual Machine from Azul Systems to boost performance of its Freeway algorithmic trading and Metro market making systems. By taking advantage of Zing, the systems can take advantage of more robust, sophisticated and customised models, and predictable low-latency, to deliver better trading performance.

With SIX Swiss Exchange now up and running with its new SWXess platform, its technology supplier Nasdaq OMX can point to the fastest implementation of its X-Stream Inet matching technology, with average round-trip latencies of less than 40 microseconds. That's probably the fastest matching engine anywhere in the world today.

Fixnetix is tapping BittWare, and its latest Altera Stratix V FPGA-based network cards, to support the second phase of its iX-eCute trade execution and pre-trade risk service. The move represents a boost for Altera, since iX-eCute originally leveraged FPGAs from rival Xilinx.
